From a young age, art and architecture held a special fascination for him, easily standing out as his favourite subjects during his school years. This early passion laid the foundation for his later pursuits in creative fields.
Military Service and Artistic Beginnings
During his two years in the army, he spent much of his available time painting water-colours. Although his output was quite limited due to military duty, these early works nonetheless proved instrumental in his artistic journey. They enabled him to gain admission to one of London’s most prestigious art academies, the Byam Shaw School of Art, where he joined a vibrant community of around fifty enthusiastic students.
Art Education and Influences
At the Byam Shaw School of Art, he was fortunate to study under the guidance of the renowned artist Bernhard Dunstan RA. His mentorship was invaluable during his time at the academy. However, after a year and a half, circumstances compelled him to leave in order to earn a living.
Transition to the Stage
Following family tradition, he moved to a career in the theatre, a path he would follow for the next sixty plus years. On stage, it seems he has been fortunate enough to have played every kind of character he would have ever wanted to. This long-standing commitment to the performing arts brought both fulfilment and periods of unemployment, which in turn provided opportunities to continue painting.
Continued Artistic Pursuits and Exhibitions
Throughout his life, he maintained his dedication to painting, creating works both in the UK and America. His efforts culminated in exhibitions in galleries located in Los Angeles and London, allowing him to share his art with a wider audience.
